https://democracynow.org - China is refusing to release three activists who were arrested while they were investigating labor conditions at a factory manufacturing Ivanka Trump brand shoes. The three men were working with the New York-based nonprofit China Labor Watch. The arrests came just weeks after Ivanka Trump secured three new exclusive trademarks in China. China accuses the investigators of interfering with the operation of the factory. China Labor Watch denies the allegations and says this is the first time in nearly two decades of its existence that any of its investigators have been detained. Amnesty International has joined in demanding the release of the trio. To talk more about what this means, we are joined in Washington, D.C., by Kevin Slaten, who was program coordinator for...
Precious metals expert Mike Maloney points to what large foreign countries are buying and it gold--lots of it. Maloney explains, says, “Between Russia, China and India, their purchases meet or exceed all worldwide production of gold. Whenever they exceed mining supply, the supply has to come from somewhere, and it’s coming from the West. When the dust settles, the East is going to be very wealthy, and the West is going to be poor.” In closing, Maloney says that all the money printing and manipulation only pushed off the real crash into the future. Maloney explains, “These things bought us some time, but they made the eventual crash much, much worse. What we are going to see is that 2008 is going to be a speed bump on the way to the main event. 2000 was a stock market crash. 2007 wa...

As of the end of October, 104,900 violations have been reported nationwide and more than 138,800 officials were subject to disciplinary action. That's according to CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection or CCDI, the country's top graft watchdog. During the three-year adoption of the eight-point rules, the CCDI has introduced a series of measures to deal with the undesirable work habits. The CCDI also exposed typical cases, naming and shaming violators ranging from village chiefs to provincial and ministerial level officials on its website. In 2015, China called for increased vigilance as extravagance, formalism and bureaucracy takes on new forms not easy to detect.
China's environmental watchdog on Wednesday urged local authorities in north China's Hebei Province and Tianjin Municipality to clean up sewage pits after media reports revealed massive pollution. Pictures of the contaminated pools went viral on Tuesday after a report from an environmental organization disclosed the pollution. The Ministry of Environmental Protection (MEP) said it has sent two teams to investigate the sewage pits and ordered local authorities to intensify their monitoring of water and soil quality in and around the polluted pools. According to Dacheng County in Hebei Province, two reportedly polluted pools -- measuring 170,000 square meters and 30,000 square meters -- were formed by years of digging and illegal dumping of waste acid in 2013, both contaminating water ...

China's CPC discipline watchdog has just held an online discussion with internet users to explain how it carries out its work. The discussion which was hosted on the official website of the Commission for Discipline Inspection of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, saw Deputy Party Secretary of the Commission, Zhang Jun answer questions about improving inspection work and strengthening inspection supervision.
China's former security chief is being investigated for suspected "serious disciplinary violation". Xinhua news agency said the probe on Zhou Yongkang will be led by the Communist Party's corruption watchdog... confirming suspicions that arose... after several people close to him were interrogated... and the powerful former minister missing from the public eye... in recent months. Zhou 's investigation makes him the highest level government official to be probed for corruption in recent years. He was a member of China's top decision-making body, the Politburo Standing Committee.
The China economy had has a huge growth rate since 1990 at times growing more than 10% per year. The US and China economies are tightly coupled together in a lot of ways. This means that a collapse or even a small dip in China's economy could spell disaster for the US economy. Recently a 12 year low in the US economy caused a 2 year low in the China economy. Does this mean a 12 year correction in the China economy would send the US back to the dark ages? Perhaps.
State media said on Monday, China's corruption watchdog has launched a series of inspections into state-owned enterprises and government bodies including China Petrochemical (Sinopec Group), Asia's largest oil refiner. The official Xinhua news agency said the inspection would be complete within one month. Sinopec Group is the parent company of China Petroleum & Chemical. The crackdown has so far netted Zhou Yongkang, former security chief and previously an oil industry man, and Jiang Jiemin, former head of top energy group China National Petroleum, the parent of PetroChina. http://news.yahoo.com/china-corruption-watchdog-launches-inspections-eyes-sinopec-131729895--finance.html http://www.wochit.com

And in its first step taken after these meetings, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) unveiled an overseas office in Beijing on today. It is part of the plan to check Chinese food for bugs and toxins before it even sets sail for the United States. The Beijing opening will be followed by two offices in India in December, and two more in Latin America in early 2009.

Top Things to do in China! I know that this is long overdue and that I haven't posted a video in a while, but seriously China!! Anyways, this list is less about the top attractions in China and more about the best ones. Moreover, it features the off the beaten path destinations in China as well. So what are the most incredible things to do in China. Here's my take: 10) Changsha and the Mao Zedong Staute (长沙和毛泽东雕像) This is crazy, in the capital of Hunan Province there's a giant statue of Mao Zedong that looks like something out of Mount Rushmore. Definitely a top thing to see in China. 9) Bifengxia Panda Base (碧峰峡大熊猫保护区) The Panda Center in Chengdu is a bit over-touristed. That's why it's a great option to head to Bifengxia on the edge of the village of Ya'an, and up to this amazing ...

Having lived in Hangzhou fort 5 months while a student at Zhejiang University, I took it upon myself to create a video exploring life in Hangzhou. The aim of this is to provide prospective travellers to the city on some cool sites (like the famous West Lake), transport tips and places to grab food. Also a great opportunity to have a word with the local people in Chinese (with subtitles). I take the opportunity to taste the infamous 'Stinky Tofu'. Hangzhou, it's glorious West Lake (Xihu) and the surrounding scenery and city, is truly a sight to behold!
